The city of Hoi An is under the influence of a humid tropical monsoon climate. This location has the weather characteristics of the Central Coast region, with hot and humid conditions, abundant rainfall and generous sunshine. Hoi An’s climate is divided into two distinct seasons:
During the dry season, from January to early March, the weather is very pleasant, while from mid-March to July, it gets hot. It is advisable to avoid April 30th and May 1st, as it is one of Vietnam’s biggest national holidays (Reunification Day), and all Vietnamese people are on vacation and traveling during this period.
It varies every year, but usually in November, Hoi An experiences heavy rain and flooding, but this only lasts for a few days, not for the whole month. During flood season, Hoi An takes on a different look, with lanes normally traveled by scooter or on foot transforming into navigable canals. Instead of scooters or bikes, we travel by boat!
Don’t be disappointed if it rains in Hội An; it’s a chance to see the city in a different light. With its calm, romantic and slightly melancholy atmosphere, the rain adds to its charm. Take the opportunity to enjoy a Vietnamese coffee or tea in a picturesque café in the old town, while watching the rain.
Every 14th of the lunar month, the old town becomes pedestrianized and vibrates to the rhythm of traditional games and the release of lanterns. A bewitching time to discover local customs and interact with the locals.
