Vietnam’s weather presents the typical characteristics of tropical climate with high average temperature (> 21 degrees), abundant precipitation (1500-2000 mm/year) and high humidity (> 80%). It is characterized by heat, humidity and monsoons.
On the other hand, as the country extends over more than 2000 km from North to South, it experiences different types of weather depending on the regions of the country (North, Center, South). When one region is sunny, the other may be cloudy or humid.
A year is divided into 4 seasons: spring (February, March, April), summer (May, June, July), autumn (August, September, October) and winter (November, December, January) .
4 seasons like in the North.
It’s hot all year round. The south experiences 2 seasons during a year: the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season is from November until the end of April. The rainy season begins in May and ends towards the end of October.
The Center is the narrowest part of Vietnam. This region is distinguished by its historical and cultural richness, beautiful beaches and extraordinary national parks.
During this period, you can come to the North to discover all its charm: the capital of Hanoi, Halong Bay, land Halong Bay of Ninh Binh… Don’t miss the high mountains of the North where the rice terraces are green in March and April. However, an in-depth discovery of the high mountains should be considered in February and at the beginning of March because of the clouds, but a circuit in a few days with hikes to discover beautiful landscapes and ethnic villages remains a great experience.
Concerning the Center, as the weather is very favorable, you can discover all its sites without any constraints: hikes in Phong Nha Ke Bang park, visits to the cultural-historical monuments of the former capital of Hue; the bike ride around Hue and the walk to discover the old town of Hoi An. The beaches of Hoi An are warm for swimming around mid-April.
The three months from February to April are very favorable for trips to the South. An immersion in the Mekong Delta, a visit to the colonial city Saigon and a seaside stay on the heavenly beach of Phu Quoc will be unmissable activities during your trip to the country’s extreme terrain.
According to the table, it is summer in Vietnam and Cambodia where it is hot with lots of sunshine, sometimes with a risk of rain. To tell the truth, it is very hot in July. The month of August corresponds to the end of summer in the North of Vietnam, it is less hot. Temperatures vary between 28 and 35 degrees but the monsoons cool the atmosphere with intense and brief rains. If you come to North Vietnam in these months, you will fall under the spell with its endless green terraced rice fields, embracing the sides of the mountain.
In the center of the country, summer is in full swing and the weather is very sunny. However, it is ideal for families to relax by the sea for their summer vacation. Cat Ba Island, the central beaches of Danang, Nha Trang, Mui Ne, etc. are sublime places to enjoy the sound of the waves, the sun and the white sand.
As for the South, although it is the rainy season, fortunately this bad weather will not persist all day, only one or two hours per day. The rest of the day is sunny, so you can still enjoy the excursions.
This is the ideal time to explore the North, whether it be an immersion in magical Halong Bay or a hike in the majestic mountains of Sapa and Ha Giang. Despite the minimal influence of fog, the landscapes of the North at this time are admirable.
These three months are ideal for visiting the Center. A walking tour of Hue or Hoi An, a boat trip on the Perfume River in Hue, a walk to the Hoian countryside offers you interesting experiences.
During this period, the South awaits you with a tour of the colonial city of Saigon, a boat ride through arroyos to immerse yourself in the life of the inhabitants of the Mekong Delta. If you want a seaside stay, the South is a magnificent option. If the beaches of the North and Center are not suitable to enjoy in these months, those of the South, such as Mui Ne, Phu Quoc bring you an unforgettable relaxing break.
